Stachak Family Info

If you're coming to this page, then our common ancestor is probably Ignatius Stachak. He was born in 1873 in Poland and came to the United States. He married to Pelagia Bialecki in 1898 and had 4 children:

  1. Agnes (Stachak) Najbar
  2. Alvin Stachak
  3. Michael Stachak (died as infant)
  4. Raymond Stachak

  5. At which time, Pelagia died, and Ignatius married again, to Martha Jankowski, in 1905 and had 6 more children:
  6. Mary (Stachak) Dusseau
  7. Hattie (Stachak) Burgard
  8. Stanley Stachak Sr.
  9. Wallace Stachak [Stock]
  10. Florence (Stachak) Walentowski
  11. Adam Stachak (died as infant)

This page details all of our ancestry in Poland, on the Stachak side.

This is a family tree, showing all information currently known about the Stachak family, in its original home of Poland, and there is also a "Polish version" of the tree, with dates in European format, if anyone happens to show it to anyone Polish, this second tree will meet their eyes better. :)

Stachak Tree                                                                   Stachak Tree (Polish version)

The above trees were constructed from information sent by the priest in Osiek koło Oświęcim, at the parish of St. Andrew the Apostle . The town itself is located approximately seven miles from Oświęcim, better known by its German name, Auschwitz.

This knowledge all became possible by following the ancestry to a person familiar to many in the family as "Uncle Joe" Sporysz. As it was known he was a relative of the Stachak family, it seemed likely that following his ancestry might lead to more information on the Stachak side, and indeed it did!

This is the WWI Draft registration card for Joe Sporysz. It lists his city of birth as "Wies Osiek."

Here, it lists his date of birth as January 3, 1890. (This is a small discrepancy of 4 days, with other records, like his obituary below.)

In his obituary, it says that Joseph was born on December 31, 1889, in "Austria" - Poland was controlled by Germany and Austria at different times, so the boundaries varied widely. This date of birth corresponds to his baptismal record (see below).

Once the town was known, it was a fairly simple matter to write there and ask for information, and the following image was sent back by the priest:

Joseph Sporysz' baptismal record, from Osiek koło Oświęcim

This information then confirmed that Joseph Sporysz was indeed related, as his mother was listed as a "Stachak." Soon, the priest also found the record for our ancestor, Ignatius Stachak, as well as other records:

Ignatius Stachak, baptismal record, July 23, 1873, Polanka Wielka

Agnieszka Stachak (sister of Ignatius), baptismal record, January 17, 1866, Polanka Wielka

Rozalia Stachak (sister of Ignatius), baptismal record, May 18, 1882, Osiek koło Oświęcim

Agnieszka Stachak (sister of Ignatius), marriage record, to Jan Sporysz, January 29, 1889, Osiek koło Oświęcim

All of these records, which all have the same information listed, tell us that "Uncle Joe Sporysz" was the nephew of Ignatius Stachak, and that the parents of Ignatius were Jakub Stachak and Agnieszka Studlik, and their parents were Pawel Stachak and Teresa Malok - from the "area of Andrychów", and Sebastian Studlik and Agata Bury, from "the area of Inwałd".

Andrychów and Inwałd are towns just south of Osiek koło Oświęcim and Polanka Wielka , so it makes sense that they would have been from there. As yet, attempts to contact these places have not returned any responses.

The records here in the United States match those in Poland:

Ignatius' first marriage lists his parents, but no maiden name.

Ignatius' death certificate also had the same issue: no maiden name.

Ignatius' second marriage does list a maiden name which does appear to match 'Studlik' or "Stulik".

The last correspondence from the priest in Osiek koło Oświęcim indicated that Jakub and Agnieszka (Studlik) Stachak died in Malec, a town very near to Osiek koło Oświęcim. His email stated that he would send the record images at a later time, but he did not respond after that:

Email from priest in Osiek koło Oświęcim, stating death dates of Ignatius' parents

This email also came, with the images of baptism from Osiek koło Oświęcim, and had some additional information as to the dates, and location of the records in their various books:

Email from priest in Osiek koło Oświęcim, stating information about images sent

Finally, this is a map of this area in Poland, showing how close these areas are to each other:

And this is as much information as is currently known. Ignatius Stachak was born in Polanka Wielka. We now know his parents and grandparents names, but not any further ancestors, and we do not yet know where they came from, when they were born or married, etc. In addition, we know he had two siblings - Rozalia and Agnieszka, but we do not yet know of any others - though it seems very likely that there are others. This could mean we have living relatives in Poland, if his siblings had children, but that information remains in Poland at the moment! Though, it is probably readily available, one would either have to go there, or we would need someone locally who can help.
